July/August 2010 Sailing Trip — Day 2

Well, that was a longer drive than we’d hoped. Not that it was any farther…it turned out to be 635 miles…but there was some intense rain for the last couple of hundred miles — sometimes raining so hard we couldn’t see vehicles just 50 feet in front of us. It was good to finally reach our destination, have a bit of dinner, visit with my mother, and crash!

Sadly, Mom’s declining fairly fast. I was prepared to be shocked, as my niece Carmelita had warned me of her deterioration, but I still wan’t fully prepared. This may be the last time I see her alive. But we’re having a nice visit, in spite of the fact that she has around-the-clock sitters, medical workers, etc. Actually, it’s good to meet the many people who are caring for her and allowing her to stay in her own home until the end; it’s my mom’s wish that she die in her home instead of in a hospital. I’ve been really impressed with the people who are involved in her care. They’re all professional and caring.
